30 Plays in 60 Minutes

At UCI, Dylan was a member and very active in Schrödinger’s Cast, 30 Plays in 60 Minutes. Schrödinger’s Cast is the first and only Neo-Futurist collective on UCI’s campus. We are a collaborative, team-focused, experimental theater group that performs in the style of Neo-Futurism (based on the work of Greg Allen and the Chicago Neo-Futurists). Each quarter, 12-15 team-members (majority undergraduates) write, direct, and perform pieces under two minutes in length as themselves, not as characters, which allows our members to speak truthfully about their own lives and experiences on stage.

Dylan joined the organization as a stage manager in the Winter of 2021, returned as a performer in Spring and Fall 2021, and was a co-captain alongside Tea Lee and Heather Lee Echeverria for Winter and Spring 2022.

Captain

As a co-captain, Dylan worked to cast the quarter’s collective, aid in developing information for our presentation at the 29th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium, and led writing sessions for collective members to get feedback on their plays using the Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process. The captains also lead us through tech and performance, with Dylan finding a focus on keeping everyone on track, while respecting the deeply personal art being performed and shared.

Performer

Throughout their time as a collective member Dylan has performed many different plays. Some of their favorites include: The Jaxon Play, where they called and left voicemails to a friend who has disappeared; Let’s Go on a Date, where an audience member could choose to join Dylan onstage for the rest of the show, and be provided water and some homemade pasta; Notecard Art Show, a play featuring small art pieces drawn by collective members on notecards throughout the space; and The play that shows I can still be the person you know, where I saw how many genuine heartfelt compliments I could give to collective members and audience members in 2 minutes.

Stage Manager

Dylan stage managed the Winter 2021 zoom performance. Stage Managing neofuturism is unique, as any 1 of the 30 plays could happen at anytime, making adaptability extremely important. Using their computer skills, Dylan not only excelled at this, but created a clear and productive environment that allowed the show to succeed.
